Boyne City
is a charming small town located at the mouth of the Boyne River on Lake Charlevoix in northern Michigan. There is a 30-mile scenic corridor along U.S. 131 that stretches from Boyne City to Harbor Springs that makes a delightful drive for visitors wanting to explore the fine beaches and quaint resort towns of the area. Boyne City has a kept its hometown ambiance and has a quiet downtown area with shops and restaurants and city parks. The town also has its own beach and a beautiful marina on Lake Charlevoix, which offers access to Lake Michigan. Lake Charlevoix and nearby Young State Park offer boating and fishing, swimming and all sorts of watercraft activities, hiking and canoeing. Bike rentals are also available in Boyne City. Michigan is blessed with over 120 inches of snowfall each year, and Boyne City is in the heart of ski country. Boyne Highlands, Boyne Mountain, Nub’s Nob are all within 26 miles of each other, and offer some of the best downhill and cross country skiing in the Midwest. Other winter sports include ice skating, sledding and snowmobiling. For more activities, the nearby town of Charlevoix is home to the Venetian Festival, a weeklong tradition for 73 years, and the annual Charlevoix Waterfront Art Fair.

The Great Lakes dominate northern Michigan%u2019s weather. What is known as %u201Clake effect snow squalls%u201D bring locally heavy snow to northern and western Michigan, with the southwest receiving much less snow. Summers tend to be sunny as the cool water of the Lakes chills the air near the Earth%u2019s surface, producing a stable atmosphere. The Lakes also modify summer high temperatures, making the northern parts of the state a popular vacation spot. Summer temperatures are typically in the upper 70s to lower 80s, with cool nights. Autumn is too cool for swimming, but is a great time for other outdoor attractions. The luminous phenomenon known as the Northern Lights is usually visible from northern Michigan 30 nights per year, most commonly in March, April, September and October.
