Troy is Michigan's 12th largest city, a northern suburb of the metro Detroit area, located between Detroit and Pontiac on Interstate 75 near Royal Oak. The city of Troy is part of Oakland County, which is a nice mix of rural lifestyle and big city amenities. Oakland County has a superb park system that includes 6 state recreation areas, 3 state parks and 2 metroparks. In addition, the town of Troy has five major community parks and nine neighborhood parks that offer a mix of open space and wooded areas, playgrounds, tennis courts, ball diamonds, soccer fields, walking/hiking trails and picnic shelters. Troy is also home to the Lloyd A. Stage Nature Center, an educational facility and natural area that includes an interpretive center, gift shop, exhibit hall, classrooms and wildlife viewing. For history buffs, The Troy Museum & Historic Village is a must see. This museum is dedicated to the area's early pioneers and contains several buildings and a Historic Village Green. Each September, the city of Troy holds its' Magic of Fall/Troy Daze Festival, which features a variety of fun activities for the whole family. This city is a good choice for those who wish to explore the Detroit metro area, but want a less crowded, more family oriented place to stay. Troy Weather & Climate

The Southeast Lower region of Michigan has four seasons and due to its location near Lake Huron and Lake Ontario, it does experience lake effect, such as increased cloudiness during late fall and early winter. Summer precipitation comes in the form of showers and thunderstorms. The Great Lakes also act as a giant "heat sink," which helps moderate the temperatures of the surrounding land, cooling summers and warming winters. It is also a natural humidifier, and this causes an increase in the moisture content in the air, creating heavier snowfalls in the winter. However, seldom are there prolonged periods of extreme heat combined with humidity in southeastern Michigan. Average annual snowfall is 36 inches, but varies greatly from year to year. Michigan is on the fringe of the Midwest tornado belt, but sees less of this activity than other parts of the country.
