Beverly Hills
, Michigan, although not the Beverly Hills of California, is, nonetheless, an exclusive community located in Oakland County in southeastern Michigan. It’s a suburb of Detroit, primarily residential with several well-planned shopping complexes. Beverly Hills is home to approximately 11,000 people and is surrounded by Birmingham and Bloomfield, two other exclusive communities. Many of the homes of the town are situated on the banks of the Rouge River, while others are built into the surrounding hills. Major roads and freeways are located nearby, so Beverly Hills is convenient to anyplace in the greater Detroit area. Mature trees and well-established neighborhoods, set back from the roads, give this small town a feeling of seclusion and tranquility. There is no official downtown to Beverly Hills, but it is close to the busy Birmingham downtown area, and also near one of the most upscale malls in the state of Michigan. There are many recreational activities near Beverly Hills, such as boating and fishing, hiking, biking and golf. Wonderful restaurants and fresh fruits and vegetables and exotic foods from around the world can also be found here. The Southeast Lower region of Michigan has four seasons and due to its location near Lake Huron and Lake Ontario, it does experience lake effect, such as increased cloudiness during late fall and early winter. Summer precipitation comes in the form of showers and thunderstorms. The Great Lakes also act as a giant "heat sink," which helps moderate the temperatures of the surrounding land, cooling summers and warming winters. It is also a natural humidifier, and this causes an increase in the moisture content in the air, creating heavier snowfalls in the winter. However, seldom are there prolonged periods of extreme heat combined with humidity in southeastern Michigan. Average annual snowfall is 36 inches, but varies greatly from year to year. Michigan is on the fringe of the Midwest tornado belt, but sees less of this activity than other parts of the country.
