Three-Rivers
is located in southwest Michigan along the banks of the St. Joseph River near the Indiana state line. This historic town was started in the early 1830s and got its name because of the confluence of the St. Joseph, Portage and Rocky Rivers at that site. The town has retained much of its historical look, with a lot of the downtown area being on the National Historical Register. This is a very scenic area of Michigan surrounded by rivers, streams, lakes and rolling hills. Just some of the activities in the area include golf, swimming, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, pontoon boats, hiking and biking, cross country skiing, sledding, winter kayaking and more. The city of Three Rivers has much to offer visitors, such as historical sites, parks, a zoo, cultural entertainment, fine restaurants and lodging. It is also just an hours drive to Lake Michigan, an hour and a half to Chicago, and within an hour to such attractions as the Paw Paw wineries, Amish Acres, The Old Bag Factory and Shipshewana (home of one of the country's largest flea markets.)

Southwest Michigan has a distinct four-season climate that is typical of most of the Midwest. Summer precipitation comes in the form of showers and thunderstorms. Lake Michigan acts as a giant "heat sink," which helps moderate the temperatures of the surrounding land, cooling summers and warming winters. It is also a natural humidifier, and this causes an increase in the moisture content in the air, creating heavier snowfalls in the winter. However, seldom are there prolonged periods of extreme heat combined with humidity in southwestern Michigan. Average annual snowfall is 36 inches, but varies greatly from year to year. Michigan is on the fringe of the Midwest tornado belt, but sees less of this activity than other parts of the country.
