Greenville
is located in south-central Michigan, easily accessible from Grand Rapids, Detroit, Chicago and Indianapolis. The town of Greenville was chartered in 1871 and lies in the southwest corner of Montcalm County. This growing city is the county’s largest commerce region and is known for its’ diverse manufacturing and natural resources like wood, natural gas and fertile soil. As a tourist destination, it offers big city amenities in a hometown atmosphere. The downtown area has lots of shopping opportunities, and lodging and dining are also plentiful in Greenville. The nearby Flat River is great for fishing, tubing, canoeing and just relaxing. Other recreational activities in the area include swimming, horseback riding, hiking, biking and camping. The town is know for its’ annual Danish Festival, usually held in August each year. This is when the town really comes alive to celebrate its’ Danish heritage. More than 75,000 visitors come for the great food, parades, arts & crafts show and more great family fun. Greenville is near the town of Saranac and the Ionia State Recreation Area, and the Six Lakes Recreation Area.

Lake Michigan dominates southwest Michigan%u2019s weather. What is known as %u201Clake effect snow squalls%u201D brings locally heavy snow to northern and western Michigan, with the southwest receiving much less snow than areas further north. Summers tend to be sunny as the cool water of the Lake chills the air near the Earth%u2019s surface, producing a stable atmosphere. The Lake also helps modify summer high temperatures, making the northern parts of the state a popular vacation spot. Autumn is too cool for swimming, but is a great time for other outdoor attractions. Although the Upper Peninsula is cooler, the temperature ranges in the far northern and far southern cities do not differ excessively Michigan is on the fringe of the Midwest tornado belt, but sees less of this activity than other parts of the country.
